Lewisham West & Penge parliamentary spokesman for the Lib Dems, Alex Feakes, has slammed his Labour opponent, Jim Dowd MP, as "self indulgent" for his role in trying to bring down the Prime Minster. Mr Dowd, facing a growing threat from the Liberal Democrats in the new parliamentary seat, is one of the MPs at the centre of plots to get rid of Gordon Brown.

"Jim Dowd shows how far he is from being interested in the real priorities of the residents of Lewisham West & Penge with his self indulgent plotting against Gordon Brown," commented Mr Feakes.

"Whilst the Liberal Democrats have been focusing on issues of interest to ordinary people at our conference in Bournemouth this week, with new plans to tackle the credit crunch, housing shortages and reducing taxation for the poorest, Labour MPs like Mr Dowd are more concerned about ousting Brown in order to save their own jobs!" said Alex.

"Gordon Brown may not be the best Prime Minister we've had, and certainly isn't popular, but Mr Dowd's priority should be to his constituents first."
